Carrboro North Carolina Art

Blues musician Elizabeth Cotten and her band will be coming to Chapel Hill - Carrboro Area next week. The mural is part of a nationwide project called the North Carolina Musicians Mural Project to honor the state's musicians and other local artists. It is painted by Chapel Hill artist Scott Nurkin, who is also involved in the nationwide projects. More than a decade ago, Nurkins created a portrait of famous North Carolinan musicians for a mural at Peppers Pizza, which closed in 2013. This mural was at the former location of Pepper's Pizza on North Main Street in downtown Raleigh and is still there.

In 2013, the work was added to the permanent collection of the Mint Museum, and I recently visited the studio and was thrown out twice. I will return next week to present my life's work as part of the North Carolina Museum of Art's annual exhibition, "The Life of Scott Nurkin."
